MOON STREET
New build | Garage conversion
Typology: Private two bedroom house
Client: Tasou associates
Location: London, UK
Status: Planning application, 2018
The project was undertaken in collaboration with Tasou associates. It is a conversion of a garage space in Islington into a residential space. The proposal turns this smaller area into an open plan residence. On the lower ground floor, an outdoor patio merges with the indoors via sliding glass doors to the bedrooms zone. The central patio permits natural light in all the bedroom areas. A skylight over the patio opens up to bring natural light and ventilation in the house.
This interior space is enclosed under the two large skylights that can open for cross ventilation. To solve the issue of a dark lower ground level, the proposal has introduced a ground floor made up of footpath paving lights, floor glass blocks, to allow natural light and activity to connect the two levels of the building. A lightwell provides illumination in the lower ground study area and bathroom.
The elevation was treated by sliding profiled glass panels, Reglit glass, that changes its appearance throughout the day and glows at night. When open they allow daylight to flood into the entire space and connect the interior rooms to the outdoor space. At night the profiled glass panels glow like a jewel box.
