ERBIL HOTEL
New build
Typology: Hotel
Client: Private
Location: Erbil, Iraq
Status: Feasibility, 2013
The hotel is located in Erbil in Iraq and consists of an indoor and outdoor ground floor restaurant, a spa and gym area in the lower ground floor, a casino on the sixth floor and a rooftop lounge with a second restaurant and a cafe. The hotel hosts 105 rooms.
The building comprises a monolithic concrete volume with the roof top made in glass curtain wall. The heaviness of the base in contrast with the lightness of the structure above celebrates the inherent qualities of the materials. The transparent upper floor will also allow the activities going on in the bar and restaurant to be visible to the street. The exterior of the building is defined by perforated metal panels placed in the bedrooms zone. These increase the privacy of the guests. Organised in vertical strips along the facade they create a geometric pattern and assist with the shading of the internal spaces.
The internals spaces have been treated with rows of ash wood louvres that line the walls and ceilings around the reception desk and the restaurant. As you enter the space, the reception area is highlighted by the use of patterns as an architectural feature.
